NEW DELHI: The former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Shazia Ilmi is likely to campaign for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Delhi Assembly Elections 2015. There are speculations that former news anchor will contest assembly election from New Delhi constituency against AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal. However, the BJP or Ilmi herself did not react on the reports but as per the media reports, Ilmi campaigning for BJP is a sure thing. The latest speculation came after Ilmi appreciated Prime Minister Narenrdra Modis Swachch Bharat Abhiyan. PMs Swachh Bharat mission is a great mission, Ilmi said.
If the reports are true, this political development will raise several questions on Shazia Ilmi as well as the BJP.
Earlier when there was a rumor of Ilmi joining Congress party, she had denied those reports saying, I would not join any political party to contest assembly elections but will remain in politics. During the past elections, it was Ilmi who asked the Muslim community to be communal and vote against the BJP, in a leaked video which went viral. Ilmi has earlier been a critique of Narendra Modi for his alleged role in 2002 Gujarat Riots. Now if the ex-AAP member wishes to join BJP, she will have to explain what changed her mind. Or is she just an opportunist like any other politician trying to earn her bread?
If the BJP welcomes Ilmi, the party will have be under scrutiny as to what basis is BJP accepting her? Has the party lost confidence in his own leaders? Even PMs Narendra Modis rallies in Delhi arent enough for BJP unit in national capital? Is Arvind Kejriwal too hard for the BJP to handle that it needs Shazia Ilmis help?
Politics is a game of unpredictability and one cannot rule out such speculations. If Shazia Ilmi joins the BJP and contests against Arvind Kejriwal, it would be interesting to watch the erstwhile allies taking on each other in the highly-pitched battle for 2015 Delhi Assembly Elections which will be held on February 7 and the results for the same will be out on February 10.
