Poonch: Massive forest fire is raging near Line of Control in border district of Poonch with locals accusing forest officials of inaction.
Since last three days heavy fire is raging in Saujian sector of Poonch in compartment numbers 13, 14, 15 and 16. The fire is going on from last three days. The heavy fire has already consumed more than 500 trees, GNS quoting sources said.
The fire, they said, has endangered houses of people living in twin villages of Chambar Kanari and Gagdiya.
The locals of Chambar Kanari said that no forest official has visited them despite heavy fire raging in there. No official has arrived in the area and nothing has been done to control the fire, they alleged.
However, the DFO Poonch, Naveed Iqbal said that they have sent a team of officials to control the fire. Locals are also helping them to control the fire. The fire has consumed private grass of the people but we are trying to control the fire, he said.
Iqbal admitted that if the fire is not brought under control, it can harm residential houses of people. He said the cause of the fire is being ascertained. (GNS)
