Budgam: A day after Army diffused an unused shell from Drang area of Tosamaidan in Central Kashmirs Budgam district, Army Monday appealed to people living in periphery of Tosamaidan to hand over the unused shells to them so that those can be diffused without causing harm to any precious life.
In October last year Army had taken an initiative to clear Tosamaidan meadow from all unexploded shells under Operation Fallah. The Operation had come to conclusion after 83 days.
Locals told CNS that many people in past have gathered unexploded shells from past many years as according to locals these people obtain metal from these shells and sell it in the open market. Reports said that Army personnel from 35 RR arrived at Drang area after it received an information about the presence of an unexploded shell in a house. An Army official said that their special team diffused the shell that could have proven fatal for the family.
We have appealed all the people to handover the unexploded shells to us so that those could be diffused, he said.
Meanwhile, the village heads have also appealed people to handover the unexploded shells to the Army. Some greedy people have gathered these dangerous shells in their houses. We are grateful to Army for making people aware about the naissance of these shells and thus we appeal them to handover these shells to the Army, a village head said. (CNS)
