PATTAN: In a tragic road accident, as many as seven people, including three members of a single family, were killed and four others injured near Ringi Mode near Pattan town on Srinagar-Baramulla highway Monday afternoon.
Eyewitnesses said that a speedy passenger Sumo vehicle (JK09A-2565) collided head on with a Tata 407 vehicle on the blind curve resulting in the instant deaths.
Sumo was heading to Srinagar from Kupwara when the driver lost control and rammed into Pattan to Haigam Tata 407 (JK01W-1652) coming in opposite direction.
Police sources said that five people in the Sumo died on spot while two more passengers succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.
Five persons who were injured were immediately rushed to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Soura.
Rescue officials immediately reached the accident spot and shifted bodies and injured to the hospital. Reports said that after the accident traffic on Srinagar-Baramulla road was suspended and was restored after police personnel removed accident hit vehicles from the road.
Eyewitnesses said that shattered glasses and blood stained debris on the accident spot presented a horrific scene. Soon after the deadly collision, we rushed towards the spot. Blood was oozing out from the injured. People without any delay shifted the injured to Sub-District Hospital and from their they were referred to Srinagar hospital, Showkat Ahmed an eyewitness said.
Police sources identified the deceased as Muhammad Shafi Malk son of Ghulam Ahmed, his daughter Naza Banoo (wife of Muhammad Shafi Malik), Sara Banoo (wife of Ghulam Ahmed Malik) all residents of Gagloosa Kupwara, Dilshad Ahmed Pir son of Ali Muhammad resident of Kralpora Kupwara, Wasim Ahmed Malik son of Bashir Ahmed Malik resident of Trehgam Kupwara, Abdul Majid Dar son of Muzafar Ahmed Dar and Parvez Ahmed Malik son of Bashir Ahmed Malik both residents of Doolipora Kupwara.
The five persons who got injured in the accident were identified as Sumo Driver, Farooq Ahmed Najar son Ghulam Hasan resident of Gagloosa Kupwara, Arfat Hussain son of Muhammad Sultan Zargar resident of Trehgam, Muhammad Ishaq Haq son of Aleemuddin and Muhammad Salim Akhtar son of Muhamamd Muzamil both residents of Kolkatta West Bengal and Tata 407 driver, Ajaz Ahmed Lone son of Muhammad Amin Lone resident of Doolipora Kupwara.
A police official said that an FIR vide number 10/2015 under section 279,337,427,304A has been registered in police station Tarzoo.
Meanwhile, in another road accident in North Kashmir, a youth lost his life when he was hit by a vehicle near Sherwani Hall Baramulla.
Police identified the deceased youth as Manjeet Singh son of Mohindar Singh a resident of Kanlibagh Baramulla.
We have registered an FIR vide number 9/2015 under section 279,337 in this regard and the investigation has been taken up, Station House Officer Ayaz Geelani said.
Meanwhile, Governor N.N. Vohra, expressed grief over the loss of precious human lives in a serious road accident which occurred this morning on Baramulla-Srinagar highway near Rengi, Potukha, leading to the loss of several lives.
The Governor has conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls.
Separately, as per Raj Bhavan Spokesman, the Governor, who is seriously concerned about the recurring fatal accidents, has directed that an urgent meeting of the Road Safety Council should be held in which he shall review the implementation status of various measures which were intended to improve road safety.
