Srinagar: Water scarcity sparked protest in Singhpora Pattan in North Kashmirs Baramulla district while protestors blocked Muzafarabad-Baramulla road forcing State Congress president Saifuddin Soz to approach police station Pattan to seek their help in getting the problems of protestors redressed.
Eyewitnesses told CNS that hundreds of residents of Singhpora Pattan took to roads and staged a protest against PHE department for failing to supply them drinking water. Protestors blocked Muzafarabad-Baramulla road that resulted in massive traffic jam. Reports said that State Congress President Saifuddin Soz, who was on way to Srinagar from Baramulla stuck in the traffic jam while protestors after sighting him, cornered his cavalcade demanding redressal of their problem.
Soz reportedly came out from his vehicle and appealed the protestors to end their protest and allow the stranded vehicles to cross the road. When protestors defied his instructions, Soz reportedly approached Police Station Pattan and appealed the Station House Officer to play his role in getting the problem of people addressed. You are the immediate officer and you must talk to PHE officials to end this protest, Soz told SHO Pattan and assured people that PHE department will supply them drinking water round the clock.
Soz told reporters that people of Kashmir are suffering due to lack of government. Once government gets formed, all the problems of people will be over, he said.
SHO Pattan Muhammad Saleem confirmed to CNS that State Congress President had approached police station Pattan and said that PHE officials have been asked to supply drinking water to the affected people. (CNS)
