After releasing his best-selling autobiography, Indian cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar who retired from all forms of cricket in 2013 with an unparalleled record of 100 international centuries is now all set to make a big-screen debut- as, himself! A Mumbai-based production house called 200NotOut has reportedly acquired the rights to make the film for World Sports Group (WSG)- which manages Tendulkar’s brand and commercial interests across the world. Award-winning London-based writer and filmmaker, James Erskine will be directing the film.
Krishna Ananthan, a spokesman for the production house told the BBC, It will be mostly about his personal life since his cricketing career is well known. The as yet-unnamed film on Tendulkar’s life is expected to be “between 90 minutes and two hours” and “we are aiming to release it by the end of this year or early next year, he said.
The film is aimed at Tendulkar’s fans all over the world and the makers of the film say they expect it will be watched globally by “people who like him and follow him”.
Asked to comment on the cricketer’s acting skills, Mr Ananthan said: “He is not acting, he’s just playing himself.”
“Shooting for the film has been going on for the past year and we aim to continue filming through the year,” he added.
According to the TOI, the feature film on the former cricketer and master blaster, will hit over 2000 theatres in the near future. The report says, the film will cover the highs and lows of Sachins career, following his life both on and off the field including his childhood, youth and marriage to Dr. Anjali Tendulkar. But, the highlight of the film will be that Sachin himself will be the lead character.
Famous personalities across the world have also been roped in to contribute to the film. The production company will also be in touch with cricket boards all over the globe to retrieve video footage of Sachins golden moments on the field.
