SRINAGAR: The Centre has set up a task force comprising around 12 officers from the Central Food Ministry to keep an eye on complaints against the misuse of food grains meant for Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources said the task force, headed by the Secretary level officer, will monitor and supervise all issues related to the management of food grains in the state of Jammu and Kashmir to ensure smooth distribution of the food grains.
One of the officials of the Central Food ministry said from New Delhi that after getting the information about the misuse of food grains the Central government has constituted a special task force. The task force comprising around 12 officers will keep the vigil of supply of food grains and will monitor the distribution process of the food grains, he said and added that several welfare schemes were being run by the Centre whose progress will also be monitored by the task force.
Meanwhile, sources said that the written complaint from a group of senior citizens has gone to the food ministry in which they have complained about the misuse of food grains.
They said that the complaint reads: Ration meant for inhabitants of the Jammu and Kashmir has been embezzled by the officials of the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CAPD).
The ration meant for the poor people, especially belonging to BPL families, are being sold in the open market, causing hardships to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. So being the responsible citizens of this society we understand it to be an important duty to inform you about this mess, the complaint reads.
Meanwhile, sources said that consumer of the flood hit Srinagar have been facing lots of difficulties as ration is not being supplied to them as per their requirement. Many areas are presently reeling under acute shortage of ration, the people complain. (KNS)
