NEW DELHI: The Adviser to the Pakistan Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, on Friday lodged a protest with Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, calling for an investigation into the killing of his nation’s soldiers allegedly by unfair means along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir.
In his letter to Swaraj, Aziz condemned the alleged actions of the Border Security Force, adding that the actions by the Indian side would ‘undermine’ the ‘peace and tranquillity’ along the borders shared by both nations.
A statement from the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared the gist of the letter.
“Condemning the action of the Indian Border Security Force, the Adviser in his letter lodged the Government of Pakistan’s strong protest with the Government of India, calling for an immediate
investigation into the incident and bringing the perpetrators to account,” the statement read.
“The letter underlines that the regrettable ambush of the soldiers would undermine mechanisms established by the two countries to ensure peace and tranquillity along the Line of Control (LoC) and the [International Border],” it added.
Islamabad says that last week Pakistani soldiers were invited for a meeting along the International Border with their Indian counterparts under a white flag and they were ambushed while under the protection of the flag.
