POONCH: Army today said a major fire, which broke out in a heap of haystacks, was timely controlled and major tragedy was averted.
“A major fire accident that took place this morning in a village at Jangalwar, was averted by the Rashtriya Rifles battalion,” an official spokesman here said.
He said the incident took place when heaps of haystacks at the village caught fire due to unknown reasons and was spreading like a forest fire.
The spokesman said on request of the villagers, Army troops rushed to the incident site equipped with various hand held fire-extinguishing equipment.
“After efforts by the Jawans for nearly an hour, the fire was brought under control,” he added and said the timely action prevented the spread of flames, which could have engulfed the densely populated village and caused serious damage to the lives and property of locals
