Valsad (Gujarat): After a ghar wapsi (home coming or re-conversion) event on Saturday in Arnai village of Valsad district in Gujarat, that saw over 500 Christians converting back to Hinduism, the World Hindu Congress or the VHP is now eyeing Ahwa town of Dang district.
According to local police, the event at a pilgrimage place in the tribal village of Arnai in Valsad ended peacefully. “The ghar wapsi is being held all across the country and will continue until there are no more Christians in this country. After Arnai, we will now hold such an event in Ahwa town of Dang on December 25, and preparations are on for the same,” said Ajit Solanki, secretary of Valsad district, VHP reports the Business Standard.
The event at Arnai on Saturday saw a havan (fire ceremony) being performed after which around 500 Christians took a dip in the nearby hot water spring as part of the ghar wapsi. “They were then welcomed into Hinduism with a photo of Lord Ram and a rudraksh garland. A religious discourse on Hinduism was also held as part of the welcome process,” said Ajit Solanki, secretary of Valsad district, VHP, adding individuals from Christian families of around 12 neighbouring villages of Kaprada taluka took part in the event.
Justifying the ghar wapsi (reconversion) campaign of Sangh affiliates, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat told the media on Saturday that those opposed to religious conversion should agree to bring in a law against the practice. Without naming Islam or Christianity, he said we will bring back our brothers who have lost their way and belongings stolen by a thief. He also called India a Hindu Rashtra.
