NEW DELHI: The Union Home Ministry on Friday issued fresh guidelines to schools across the country on safety measures in wake of terror attacks in a Peshawar school.
The fresh Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for schools issued by the MHA has advisory such as concrete boundary walls with at least three to four gates and three telephone lines at the main gate.
The SOP also says that telephone number of nearest police station and PCR van should be displayed prominently in schools. At the same time it has emphasised on giving importance to CCTV cameras and alarm system.
The Home Ministry had in the past issued guidelines for schools asking them to be ready with a contingency plan in case they were confronted with a terror attack. It had talked about how to prevent hostage situation and raise alarm.
Moreover, the earlier SOP has also issued guidelines on how to shut doors and gates in case of an emergency.
This advisory had been issued in 2010, in the wake of the arrest of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks accused David Coleman Headley arrest in the United States.
In an incident which shocked the world, the Pakistani Taliban brutally slaughtered more than 140 people, mostly children, in an attack in Peshawar’s Army Public School.
After the attack in Peshawar attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had talked to Nawaz Sharif and had said that India stood with Pakistan in their difficult moment.
Also, schools across India had observed a two minutes silence in solidarity with those killed in the terror attack.
Shocked by the gruesome terror attack in Peshawar, private schools in Delhi and other states like Goa and Uttarakhand are initiating a series of preventive measures on their own to enhance security of the students besides complying with directives of police, as per PTI.
A number of schools have sent communications to parents of the students seeking their cooperation to enhance security measures in the schools.
In many states directives are being sent to respective district magistrates and police chiefs to pay special attention to the security of educational institutions and its pupils.
