BANDIPORE: Ghulam Ahmed Bhat, who contested recent elections as an independent candidate from Bandipore Assembly segment passed away on Thursday, just five days before the results.
Family sources said that Bhat who was 63 developed chest pain on Wednesday evening, after which he was shifted to hospital where he breathed his last on Thursday morning.
Bhat who is survived by wife, son and a daughter actively participated in recent poll process and had extensively toured the Bandipore Assembly segment. With ‘Sun’ as symbol, Bhat was among the eight independent candidates who were contesting the polls from Bandipore constituency.
His sudden death was condoled by his rival candidates including PDP leader and MLA Bandipore Nizamudin Bhat, Former Minster and congress candidate Usman Masjid. Both of them expressed grief over the demise and showed solidarity with the bereaved family.
