SRINAGAR: Leh in frontier region of Ladakh was the coldest place in Jammu and Kashmir where the night temperature at most places, including capital Srinagar, dropped by one to four degrees.
The minimum temperature recorded at Leh, 434 kms from Srinagar, was minus 9.2 degrees Celsius as against previous night’s minus 7.2 degrees Celsius, an official at the meteorological department said.
The night temperature in Kargil recorded a dip of nearly two degrees to settle at minus 6.2 degrees celsius.
Pahalgam recorded a drop of nearly four degrees in the minimum temperature which settled at minus 4.4 degrees celsius as against yesterday’s minus 0.8 degrees celsius.
The ski resort of Gulmarg was the coldest place in the Valley with a low of minus 5.4 degrees celsius, down from the previous night’s minus 4.7 degrees
celsius, the official said.
Srinagar recorded a further drop of one degree in the night temperature which settled at minus 2.4 degrees celsius as against yesterday’s minus 1.2 degrees celsius.
The minimum temperature recorded in Kupwara town was minus 3.4 degrees celsius as against yesterday’s minus 2.4, while Kokernag recorded a minimum of minus 1.9 degrees celsius as against minus 0.8 the previous night.
The MeT department predicted light rain or snow at isolated places in the state during the next 24 hours and further fall in night temperature during the next four days.
