Sonamarag: Chief Executive Officer Sonamarag Development Authority Tuesday admitted that the tourist resort Sonamarag is losing its sheen due to illegal structures that have been coming up there at a breakneck from past several months. Zulifkar Ahmed Khan, CEO, Sonamarag Development Authority said that he is in touch with Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal and ways and means are being devised to dismantle all the illegal structures that have come up at different places in and around Sonamarag.
Whenever we send a team to dismantle these illegal structures, the vested interests resent our action and attack our team. We are mulling to seek help from police so that all such structures would be dismantled and strict action be taken against the violators, Khan said.
He admitted that some influential people are busy in raising illegal structures in the tourist resort Sonamarag. He identified these places as New National Highway Sonamarag, proper Sonamarag, Gadibal, Gadakul, Sarbal and Lashpathri Sonamarag.
All formalities have been completed to stop illegal constructions and our special teams will dismantle all such structures within one or two days, Khan added.
According to locals some influential people mostly hotel owners are busy in raising illegal structures along river Sindh at sonamarg while authorities are in deep slumber. Locals are alleging that these influential people have been disfiguring the beauty of tourist resort in broad day light as they grease the palms of officials before undertaking such activities. However, CEO, SDA, Zulifkar Khan termed such allegations baseless and said that people will see in coming days how these illegal structures will be raised to ground and strict action will be initiated against the offenders.
Chief Secretary Muhammad Iqbal Khandey while expressing concern over the development told CNS that he would look into the matter. (CNS)
