JAMMU, DECEMBER 6- In connection with National Lok Adalat, J&K State Legal Services Authority under the Patronage of Mr. Justice M.M.Kumar, Chief Justice, High Court of J&K and Patron-in-Chief, J&K State Legal Services Authority and under the guidance and supervision of Mr. Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, Judge, High Court of J&K and Executive Chairman, J&K State Legal Services Authority, Lok Adalats were organized across the State at Tehsil, District and High Court levels with the co-operation of Advocates, Public, Executive, Bank officials, Insurance officials, in which large number of cases were placed and settled amicably.
Over all 1,14,786 cases have been settled, compensation with respect to road traffic victims to the tune of approximately Rs. 40.00 crore was awarded to claimants besides settling relief claims of flood affected victims. An amount of Rs.32.00 crore was also recovered in bank cases.
Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, Judge J&K High Court who is also the Executive Chairman J&K State Legal Services Authority today inaugurated the Second National Lok Adalat, organized here at J&K High Court Complex, Jammu aimed at to reduce pendency in the courts and sensitizing the public about the effective alternative dispute resolution method.
Mr. Justice Mr. Tashi Rabstan, Judge, High Court of J&K, Mr. Justice Janak Raj Kotwal, Judge, High Court of J&K and officers of Registry and State Legal Services Authority were present at the inaugural function.
Justice Mir in his interaction with media persons highlighted the importance of Lok Adalats and said that these are effective means of resolving the disputes and help to reduce pendency of cases in courts besides saving time and money of the litigants. He said that relations between the litigants are not strained and they remain cordial as they mutually agree to dissolve their dispute.
He said that these Lok Adalats are organized at all levels by the State Legal Authorities and free legal consultations are extended to the people to resolve their disputes amicably.
He said that the Legal Aid Clinics across the state are extending great help to the people and generating awareness among the masses about their legal rights. The Legal Aid Clinics have provided great help to resolve the cases of the flood victims besides ensuring that they receive justice.
Mr. Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir highlighted the Importance of settlement through Lok Adalats and legal services institutions constituted under the Act, for spreading the awareness about the welfare of the people were the main objective for conducting of such Adalats at national level.
