PULWAMA: A paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer was killed while 8 people including five forces personal were injured when militants hurled a grenade at Pohu area of Pulwama district on Wednesday evening. The attack took place just six days before polling in the district.
Official sources said that militants lobbed a grenade on a vehicle of paramilitary CRPF at Pohu Bridge in the district. Soon after the grenade, there was exchange of fire between the two sides, they said. Sources said the attack left eight people including our CRPF, two police and two civilians injured who were immediately removed to District Hospital Pulwama.
The injured CRPF men were identified as Inspector Uttam Chand, ASI Shamsheer Singh, Constable Muhammad Iqbal and Swinder Gosh.
The injured policemen were identified as Manzoor Ahmad (belt number 945) and Zakir Hussain (belt number 1498). The injured civilians were identified as Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Manzoor Ahmad Mir and Gulzar Ahmad Wagay, who are all residents of Pohu.
Sources said the injured CRPF ASI, Shamsheer Singh, who was critically injured in the attack, succumbed to injuries at Pulwama Hospital. The slain was from 183 Battalion of CRPF.
Zahoor Ahmad, the civilian, who was hit by a bullet in his abdomen, was shifted to Srinagar following critical situation.
Meanwhile, soon after the attack, Special Operation Group (SOG) and CRPF cordoned whole area and launched massive search operation to nab the militants. The senior security officials also rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation. gns
