Srinagar: Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron and former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Friday said that Afzal Guru was hanged despite being at serial number 28 with his family not even allowed to meet him for the one last time.
Mufti also stated that Article 370 cannot be eroded even by the Parliament and that PDP will strive to strengthen it and restore it to its original glory.
While addressing poll rallies at North Kashmirs Sopore and Handwara areas the PDP patron said that people of Jammu and Kashmir must decide their fate during the ongoing elections and that the government failed them on all front.
People heaved the sigh of relief from chaos and lawlessness in the state after 2002 elections when PDP with its 16 members formed the government, he said and maintained that people in 2008 elections didnt accord full mandate to the PDP due to which the state reached at the brink of devastation.
We remained in opposition in 2008 with 21 members and people know better how PDP played the role of opposition for six years and what government did for the state.
The former chief minister stated that he is not Imran Khan and he allowed the government to function for six years. Imran Khan of Pakistan came on streets to foil Nawaz Sharifs government. We didnt do that. Despite all the anarchic measures, we allowed the government to complete full term. The people of Jammu and Kashmir know better what the government has done for the state. It promised model towns, improvement in horticulture, handicrafts but the promises were never fulfilled, he said.
Pledging that the PDP wants prosperous JK, Mufti said that his party is committed to put a lid over the plunder and mis-governance. We opened Mughal road and ensured the winds of change. But everything was scuttled by this government, he said.
Mufti claimed that Omar Abdullah skipped Ganderbal constituency due to his inability to ensure over all development. Omar was compelled by his incapability to bid adieu to Ganderbal. I think the time has come when people have to make difference between friends and foes, the PDP patron said.
He added that he is confident that people will give PDP a decisive mandate so that state could come out of the turbulent phase. This much is the condition of the state government that PM preferred money order to the flood victims instead of giving funds via the state government, he added.
