Srinagar: A seventeen year old youth sustained serious injuries in an explosion in Vilgam forest in north Kashmirs Kupwara district.
A police official said the youth identified as Zakir Ahmad Tantray, son of Abdul Ahad Tantray, resident of Kalmuna village of Vilgam area. The official said the youth had gone to Hafruda forest adjacent to Kalmuna village for collection of firewood.
While cutting down wood, suddenly some explosive material exploded resulting in serious injuries to the youth, he said, adding, due to powerful explosion, his leg got amputated in the blast.
The official said after hearing loud explosion, people panicked and ran towards safer places. However, he said, after seeing the youth injured, the locals took him to the Kupwara hospital and called police.
The youth has been shifted to SKIMS Soura in critical conduction. gns
