Srinagar: Police Wednesday detained a CA&PD storekeeper after the residents of Pamposh Colony Palapora in Eidgah area of Srinagar city lodged a complaint that the said storekeeper forced them to pay money for the free ration meant for the flood victims.
Locals said that store-keeper Abdul Rashid forced some 60 households to pay Rs 250 each for the 28 kg ration that he had procured from the CA&PD department to supply free of cost to the flood hit people.
The store-keeper was supposed to supply 30 kg rice per household free of cost but he provided only 28 kg ration and charged Rs 250 from each household owner, a local Bilal Ahmed told CNS adding that when the residents approached Assistant Director Supplies, he asked us to provide details about the store-keeper.
They said dissatisfied with the reply of AD Supplies, the local lodged a formal complaint in police station Noor Bagh against the accused after which he was detained for questioning. Yes, we have detained the store-keeper and the inquiry is going on, a police official said.
Pertinently, residents of Lal Bazar in the city, village Tantray Pora in Magam and Shadipora in Sonwari have also accused store-keeper of demanding money for them while the Director CA&PD had appealed people not to pay anything for the free ration to any store-keeper.
In Tantraypora a flat rate of Rs 500 has been fixed per house hold by the Store Keeper, residents said.
Bashir Ahmad, a resident of Shadipora said local CA&PD store refuses to release ration even though they are ready to pay because of Muharram.
