Srinagar: The officials of Department of Sheep and Animal Husbandry in connivance with the Revenue officials have reportedly embezzled lakhs of rupees in the garb of providing relief to those people who were not hit by floods in Central Kashmirs Ganderbal district.
Reports said that the officials of Department of Sheep and Animal Husbandry in connivance with the Revenue officials have drained the state-exchequer by formulating a fake list showing exaggerated figures about the number of livestock deaths in different areas of Ganderbal district which were not hit by floods.
These officials according to reports have prepared a list claimed that 18 horses, and 29 sheep were devoured by floods in Binihama Village and similarly they have showed hundreds of deaths of livestock in villages like Wusan, Akhal Kangan, Wangatyar, Chervan, Satrana while according to the locals no such deaths occurred in these hamlets.
Highly placed sources told CNS that for each death of an animal, Rs 16,400 were drawn from state exchequer by these officials and were reportedly distributed among themselves.
Locals demanded a thorough probe into the matter and appealed authorities to stop these officials from committing unabated fraud.
When contacted Minister of State for Sheep and Animal Husbandry Nazir Ahmed Gurezi said that he would look into the matter while Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal did not respond to the repeated phone calls. (CNS)
