Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) Wednesday discussed destruction caused by the recent floods, relief distribution process, arrest of Ayaz Akbar and announcement of so-called elections during a meeting held under conglomerates Chairman Syed Ali Geelani.
In a statement a spokesman of the Hurriyat (G) said the meeting was attended by eight constituents. While addressing the meeting, Geelani alleged the state administration totally ignored all the difficulties and miseries of the flood-hit people and announced the election drama.
The announcement of so called elections has no justification at a time when whole nation is struggling for their survival. He said that the All Parties Hurriyat Conference has clear stand regarding the election drama, he said.
While appealing people of the Jammu & Kashmir irrespective of their religion, to completely boycott the upcoming election drama, Hurriyat (G) chairman said that after the 1987, election boycott has become an important part of our freedom struggle. The state of Jammu & Kashmir is a disputed territory and the elections in this region are not any democratic process but it is a military operation which is held to befool the Indian people and the international community, he alleged.
The people of the region are carving for the availability of food, shelter and worm cloths and the government is wasting millions of rupees for the preparation of election drama which is totally irrelevant to the situations, Geelani claimed.
In his presidential address, Geelani expressed satisfaction over the rescue and relief works done by the pro-freedom organizations and the youths and termed it national pride. At the time when forces were making pleasantry in the name of rescue operation and when the Indian government was watching that how the people of Kashmir will die, the role played by the youths of the nation should be written in the golden words. Now with the announcement of election drama, the administration came into action and started arresting and harassing the pro-freedom and the common people, he said. Arresting and harassing the people at this time of national disaster is the worst kind of political vengeance.
