SRINAGAR: The moon of Muharram-ul-Haram was sighted at many places in the region and the Ashura would fall on Tuesday, November 4.
The moon sighting marks the beginning of a new Islamic year and anniversary of the tragedy of Karbala. It was on 10th (Ashura) of this month in the year 61 Hijri ((October 10, 680) that kith and kin of Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) were mercilessly massacred in the deserts of Karbala, now a thriving pilgrimage centre.
