SRINAGAR: Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies (KCSDS) Saturday deplored the announcement of elections by the election commission of India.
This shows the total disconnect with the people of the state and crass insensitivity to their needs and sentiments KCSDS said in a statement issued after an extraordinary meeting.
Yesterday only we had taken the stock of the situation vis a vis the rumours of imminent announcement by the election commission of JK elections and put the reasons before the media of why elections are the most undesirable things today, it read.
Elections have been announced irrespective of the current enormous hardships and miseries of the flood affected state. People are outraged and disgusted with this idea because at present the state administration needs to be whole-heartedly focused on catering to the needs of the devastated the hungry and the homeless and rebuilding the devastated huge infrastructure of the state on which essential services depend The onset of winter will doubly aggravate the challenges of survival, the statement said .
Burdened with additional responsibilities of election process, bureaucracy would be hard pressed to perform the twin jobselection process and flood relief which will leave people in lurch as electioneering will take precedence over everything else. The overwhelming majority considers holding of elections at present juncture equivalent to rubbing salt on their wounds.
