SRINAGAR: A policeman was shot dead by unidentified gunmen outside his residence in Qaimoh in south Kashmirs Kulgam district late Thursday evening.
Official sources said that the gunmen intercepted the policeman Rafiq Ahmad Mir (38) son of Mohammad Ramzan Mir, a resident of Hasanpora Bagh at around 8:40 pm and and took him along.
The gunmen later shot him from point blank range, few meters away from his residence, police sources said.
Rafiq, was shifted to sub-district hospital Bijbehara where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival, they said.
The policeman, who belonged to IRP 12 bn and was posted at Mattan area in Anantnag district, was on leave and had reached home only yesterday, they said.
Meanwhile, Army, Special Operation Group of Police and CRPF cordoned off the area and launched the hunt to nab the suspected militants.
