SRINAGAR: National Conference general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar was booed by flood affected people when he visited them in the old city on Saturday.
People raised slogans against government in protest against scarcity of proper accommodation for the flood victims.
According to KNS when the senior cabinet minister visited various flood affected areas of the old city, people came out in large numbers protesting the government inaction.
Quoting eyewitnesses report said that as Sagar was busy taking stock of the situation, he was gheraoed by agitated people who expressed their dismay over governments performance during the recent catastrophic floods. Few youth questioned him about the absence of any relief camp organized by the government. Sagar silently listened to people while his guards threw a security ring around him.
Sagar faced hostile crowds across his own turf where protesters accused the minister of remaining in slumber when his presence of ground was needed most. We were forced to spend days and nights under open sky. There was no community hall, no relief centre established by the government in Khanyar. What for is the minister coming now, shouted one protester.
These ministers announce before TV cameras that free ration of 50 Kgs per month has been allotted to each household in the state for the period of six months but when the concerned depots are approached, the officials there say they have not received such orders, said Ghulam Rasool Mir, an upper town resident.
We heard that ration was provided to the people in select areas but there are areas where the flood victims have taken refuge which are facing the scarcity, said Zahoor Ahmad. (KNS)
