The Government of Jammu and Kashmir issued a circular that public could withdraw their money from any branch of J&K Bank after heavy floods wrecked havoc with banking system across the state.
But what I observed in Delhi, the branch managers here are refusing to act on that circular issued from the State Govt. The public is facing trouble and inconvenience in getting their money from respective branches.
The concerned branch managers ask them to get their cheque or passbooks with them for withdrawal of their money. I will quote here a personal experience I had while visiting a branch of J&K Bank in Greater Kailash area of New Delhi. The branch manager flatly refused to accept my withdrawal slip saying it will not be entertained unless cheque book or passbook is with the client. When I told him how I could get a cheque book when my house is submerged in flood waters, he had no answers.
I pleaded with him and showed my Identify card to which the worthy manager said it can be fraud.
Then due to intervention of account holder of that bank branch who accepted responsibility on my behalf did I manage to persuade the manager. Authorities are requested to take necessary action, so that public already hard pressed do not suffer more.
