SRINAGAR: The first formal meeting between the two committees of Hurriyat Conference (G) and Hurriyat Conference Jammu and Kashmir (HCJK) took place discussing the broader contours of unity among pro freedom groups in Kashmir.
According to KNS , the meeting took place between HCJK committee comprising of Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Shabir Ahmad Dar, Farooq Ahmad Dar and Mohammad Iqbal Mir and Hurriyat (G) committee members Mohammad Altaf Shah and Mohammad Shafi Lone at HCJK office in Rajbagh.
The meeting was held in a very cordial atmosphere and sofar both the sides have agreed to meet again,: Khan told KNS. He said that a consensus was evolved during the meetings that the Hurriyat Constitution framed in 1993 should form the basis for any unity among the separatist leadership in Kashmir. Both the sides hold Hurriyat preamble in high esteem and the same was discussed during the meeting, Khan informed.
He said that both the sides tried to discuss a common minimum programme that can be worked out in future after the two committee reach to any conclusion in this regard. Since the initiative has been taken by the Hurriyat Conference (G) so its committee will be meeting other pro freedom groups very soon. At least we both have decided to continue our interactions in future. This was the positive outcome of todays meeting, Khan told KNS.
Khan said that the unity initiative taken by Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani is actually aimed at finding common minimum programme among the separatists groups that can take people of Kashmir out from the prevailing political quagmire. Through this programme only we can foil the nefarious deigns of India in Kashmir, Khan claimed.
Meanwhile, Shabir Ahmad Shah told KNS that the outcome of the meeting will be discussed in HCJK and steps will be taken to further the unity efforts from all sides. The unity among pro freedom groups has become inevitable so we are all trying to evolve a consensus and are trying to find a meeting ground where no faction will have any reason to say no to the unity efforts, Shah told KNS.
The HCJK senior leader added that his faction of Hurriyat Conference will soon call a meeting of its leadership to discuss the minutes of todays meeting held between the two committees. We will accordingly discuss the recommendations of our committee and the proposal discussed by the Hurriyat (G) committee mooted out in todays meeting. Let us hope for the best.
