SRINAGAR: Minister for Transport and CA&PD, Ch. Mohammad Ramzan replying to a Calling Attention Notice moved by Dr. Bashir Ahmad Shah Veeri informed the house that private run transport facility to orchardists is being driven by the market forces on the basis of demand and supply. During the fruit season in the valley huge quantity of fruit is being exported and as a result the transporters charge more as compared to the off season.
He said the State Transport Authority, J&K earlier had the mandate to fix the freight rates for goods carriages but the said practice has been discontinued, however, the horticulturalists/orchardists can approach the MD JKSRTC for providing such facility for transportation of fruit consignments to outside the State.
The Minister further said that as regards the availability of the Transport facility to the Horticulturalists/orchardists of Kashmir particularly the Bijbehara constituency at a very heavy price the department is not aware of it as no such complaint has been received in this regard.
