SRINAGAR The government forces in parts of south Kashmirs Pulwama district are carrying out extensive searches following appearance of threatening posters in the district warning village heads to resign or face consequences.
The searches are being carried out to secure Sarpanchs and Panchs. We are taking extra-precaution following the appearance of threatening posters in which the village heads were threatened, a senior police official said. He added that recent spate of attacks have kept forces on heightened alert.
Sources said that the checking and cordon in the district have become routine exercise. Since a week, the forces regularly carry out searches in Pulwama villages including at Rahmoo, Frasipora, Zadoora, Kamrizipora and Chontwari, they said.
The searches are jointly being carried out by polices Special Operation Group, army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Officials said that they dont want repeat of recent attacks in the district which left 6 people including 5 government forces men dead.
An army official said that the militants after carrying out attacks in urban areas of the district take refuge in these villages. They take a turn to these areas. We dont want to give them any chance, he said.
