Srinagar: Another militant was killed on Tuesday morning taking death toll of militants and soldiers to nine in a three day long encounter in north Kashmirs Kupwara district.
Official sources said that tuesday morning the joint team of armys 41 RR, 18 RR and 28 RR established the contact of the hiding militants at Gurdagi upper forest belt of Nunwani in Kalaroos.
The militants, according to officials, had fled from the encounter site earlier this Sunday.
Following the escape of militants the joint team of forces cordoned-off all the connecting routes of the Nunwani Kalaroos forest area.
In a fresh firing exchange this morning a militant was killed. His body, arms and ammunition has been recovered from the site, they said.
Witnesses added that the army has pressed choppers into service to locate the militants hiding in both the areas.
A senior army official while confirming the death of a militant said that the twin Keran and Kalaroos operations are still going on.
Since August 23: 6 militants, 3 soldiers have been killed and three army men were injured in the encounters at Kalaroos and Keran in the district.
On Saturday night, a soldier of 23 Grenadier was killed after militants attacked armys patrol at Kundan Nar in Keran sector. While as the militant group was intercepted by the same army unit in the area killing one of the militant, on Monday.
On Sunday: 4 militants and a soldier of 45 RR was killed at Nunwani forest in Kalaroos in the district. Three soldiers also sustained injuries in the same incident.
On Monday: one more militant and a soldier of 28 RR was killed and another soldier of 160 TA got injured during a gunfight near Gagel forest in Kalaroos.
Keeping the apprehensions of fresh infiltration across Kupwara forests, army has intensified the combing operations along Kupwara LoC.
The official earlier had said that: forces have been asked to remain vigilant in Bandipora, Sopore, Zaloora, Handwara, Vilgam, Chokibal, Keran and Tanghdar forests. (GNS)
