SRINAGAR: Police on Wednesday detained a top government official for cheque fraud.
Official sources said that a local businessman, Sajad Ahmad Bhat from Rajbagh, Srinagar earlier this month had filed a complaint before police wherein he mentioned that he has lost a cheque of Rs 5 lakh in Shaheedgunj area.
Police in the investigation later found Tehseen Mufti, Director Finance Sheep and Animal Husbandry Department Kashmir, involved in the case Tehseen Mufti had withdrawn the cheque through her personal account at JK Bank Hari Singh High Street Srinagar on August 06 this month, they said.
A police official while confirming the case said that the Director has been arrested and taken to police station Shaheed Gunj for further investigations. (GNS)
