SRINAGAR: The gulf between National Conference and its alliance partner Congress widened further Wednesday when the member parliament and senior NC leader Mohammad Shafi Uri accused Congress of creating hurdles in addressing the mounting unemployment problem in the state.
Shafi said that Congress, right from the day of joining alliance, has been sabotaging the governance on the ground.
Addressing a public gathering in Uri, NC MP said that though his party had forged an alliance with Congress in 2009 but Congress never behaved as a sincere coalition partner and always created impediments in the way of good governance in Jammu and Kashmir.
He observed that addressing unemployment was among the top priorities of the national conference but due to Congresss half hearted approach, national conference to a large extent didnt succeed in addressing the problem. Shafi, however, pledged that if NC forms the next government, it will ensure that Kashmirs unemployment crisis is addressed during its tenure. The former minister claimed that nobody will be allowed to fiddle with the constitutional guarantees for Jammu and Kashmir enshrined in the Article 370.
Expressing regrets over the cancelation of Indo-Pak foreign secretary level talks, Shafi said dialogue is the only way out to address the issues. He said that any break-off in the dialogue process has a direct bearing on the people of Kashmir besides the two countries.
Shafi stressed on a need for holding talks so that the Kashmir issue is amicably resolved.
