SRINAGAR: Terming the situation in Pakistan unfortunate, Huriyat Conference (G) led by Syed Ali Geelani Wednesday said that democracy must survive in Pakistan and destabilization of the region cannot be accepted.
The amalgam has said that the leaders heading the agitation are not displaying the farsightedness and the weakening of Pakistan at present time is fraught with the dangerous consequences. At the time when some countries are hell bent upon weakening Pakistan and its foundations, attempts being made internally for the same are indeed much unfortunate and condemnable.
Huriyat (G) has said that strong Pakistan is in the interests of the ongoing resistance movement of Kashmir. Geelani also hailed the courage of Pak premier Mian Nawaz Sharief , saying that he preferred Kashmir over the foreign secretary level talks. The fact is that Sharief was informed by his Pak officials that India either wants foreign secretary level talks or the talks with the separatists be held. Pakistan preferred separatists and Kashmir. We welcome it.
Pertinently, protesters demanding the fall of the Pakistani government blockaded parliament and key ministries on Wednesday in the latest round of a week-long political drama that has shaken the restive nuclear-armed nation.
Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan and populist cleric Tahir-ul-Qadri had on Tuesday led followers in a late-night march on the parliament building, the culmination of a week-long standoff with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Khan and Qadri say last year’s general election that swept Sharif to power by a landslide was rigged, and they are demanding his resignation.
Qadri repeated his demand for Sharif to quit and install a “national government”, and ordered his followers to stop lawmakers leaving a national assembly sitting called to debate the crisis.
