Srinagar: National Conference has said that PDPs silence on the incident of its candidate from Sonawari and District President Bandipora Yasir Reshi barging into J&K Bank Branch Sumbal and assaulting the Branch Manager was shameful. National Conference has also stated that J&K Bank leadership should have filed an FIR over this incident and should not have succumbed to political pressure and influence to shield the PDP leader, especially after the Branch Manager clearly disclosed the ordeal and Reshis outrageous behavior.
National Conference Spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu has said that while Mehbooba Mufti was quick to come out on the streets if there were accusations against leaders of other parties, her double standards had been exposed in her decision to remain silent on acts of indecency, violence and harassment by leaders belonging to her own party. These are brazen double-standards. Is PDP giving out a message to the people of this State that their leaders have been given the right and political patronage to assault people, barge into government offices and banks and harass civilians who refuse to be coerced into submission? PDP wants to start a new phase of Ikhwani-Raj in the State, the NC Spokesman said.
Apparently the PDP candidate from Sonawari was demanding a Bank Overdraft in violation of set norms and procedures from the J&K Bank Branch Manager at Branch Sumbal. Once denied, Reshi abused and assaulted the Branch Manager and threatened him of dire consequences. There are witnesses to this incident of both the abuses hurled at the Manager and of the assault on him by Reshi and his muscle-men who were accompanying him. This episode is eerily reflective of the time when PDP leaders looted and plundered the State and made it the most corrupt State in the country within a remarkably short period of three years. Now they have started bank-heists and raids to indicate their intentions, the NC Spokesman said while demanding the sternest of punishments for the PDP leader so that an unambiguous example is set.
The NC Spokesman said that civilians of Sumbal-Sonawari were reeling under the obnoxious suppression and harassment of muscle-men patronized by PDP, some of who have connections with some elements in the security forces as well. The medias silence on this issue is also sad. A crime or an act of impropriety should not be treated differently depending on the political affiliation of the culprit. This is great injustice with the people. The dignity of a Bank Employee has been violated and he has been abused and humiliated by a person who aspires to represent the people of the area. Why is the media shielding him? Why hasn’t J&K Bank filed a police complaint and taken a stand in favor of its own Manager who related the whole ordeal in the media? the NC Spokesman asked.
Junaid said that National Conference has always and will always condemn such incidents irrespective of the political leanings and affiliations of the culprits and the party would not allow PDP to patronize and encourage a Goonda-Raj in Jammu & Kashmir.
