Srinagar: After the state Congress chief Saif-ud-din Soz trained guns on ruling National Conference accusing it of having lack of coordination within the party, Congress is all set to harden its stand with its high command asking it not to compromise at all.
Sources said that the state Congress has asked its council of ministers to gear up for the challenge and make immediate action over the fulfillment of the promises made to the people during the 2008 elections.
A top Congress leader while pleading anonymity said that the party has been asked to fight for the incorporation of 73rd amendment in the Panchayat Raj Act and also for the resolution of the refugees issue. The Congress leader stated that the party has been directed to harden its stand over the issue of refugees and not to undermine the vitality of the same during the expected cabinet meetings.
Sources also maintained that the Congress high command has taken serious note of cancellation of the coordination committee meeting that was scheduled to be held on August 10. The NC had earlier informed Soz that the meeting stands postponed with three members of National Conference taking part in the meeting. Soz later castigated NC accusing the party of having lack of coordination within.
Soz had also registered his protest before the Congress high command with the senior party leadership taking note of the incident. The high command reportedly asked its state cadre to pursue the election agenda thoroughly and not to compromise on any issue with its coalition partner national conference. We have certain issues that need to be resolved. We have to thoroughly pursue the promises that we made to the people during the earlier elections, said a Congress insider.
According to the media reports, All-India Congress Committee general secretary and state Congress affairs in charge Ambika Soni asserted that the Congress would aggressively pursue issues like problems of refugees and border migrants. I am aware of the statements of NC leaders during their political programmes in different parts of the state, She said adding that every political party had its own agenda, but the government should not take such statements as an excuse to ignore important issues. I had asked year earlier the state government to implement the 73rd and 74th Amendments of the Constitution, but nothing concrete was done in this regard. (KNS)
