Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference M chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Monday urged Indian Prime Minister Narindera Modi that he should agree to a political solution for the vexed Kashmir dispute, because “there is no military or developmental solution.”
“It’s evident from the latest postures that the Modi government seems interested in development and believes that the influx of money and development will settle the issue but that is not going to happen,” Mirwaiz told a seminar his amalgam had sponsored to commemorate the ‘martyrdom anniversary’ of Sheikh Abdul Aziz, who was killed allegedly by Indian armed forces while leading a procession near LoC in 2010.
Mirwaiz said that elections are in a no way any solution to Kashmir issue and those who portray elections as a resolution or referendum are living in fools paradise. Kashmir dispute is an internationally recognized dispute as the UN resolutions stands testimony to this fact, Mirwaiz added.
Welcoming the proposed talks between India and Pakistan, Mirwaiz stated that the success of talks between the two countries was connected to the solution of Kashmir issue. He stated that the leadership of both nations instead of dealing with secondary issues should focus their energies on the solution of Kashmir issue, the main source of confrontation and tension between the two countries.
He stated that India should realize that Kashmir issue could not be solved through military means, neither by the use of force, coercion, bullying, or by taking cosmetic measures like giving people financial concessions. He said Kashmir was a human issue and can be solved only through political means.
He stated that Kashmir was an internationally recognized dispute and no sham elections could alter this position or could be substitute to the resolution of Kashmir.
