SRINAGAR: Prof Mohammad Amin Sofi, one of the senior most professors in the entire region is planning legal recourse against what he describes as the prejudiced criteria adopted for selection of aspirants for Kashmir Universitys Vice Chancellors post.
Prof Sofi said that his name does not figure in the list of five aspirants shortlisted by the search committee from the state. All my juniors are figuring in the list while as my name does not figure anywhere in the list. I have already appraised Governor N N Vohra about the whole issue yesterday, Prof Sofi told news agencies here.
Prof Sofi, who has been five times interim vice chancellor of the Kashmir University informed KNS that since has submitted his resume for the post of Vice Chancellor of Central University is seriously contemplating to approach the court to seek justice.
Sources said that an expert search committee comprising of three former vice chancellors–Prof. Goverdhan Mehta, Prof A M Pathan and Prof Solanki have already invited the eleven aspirants including six professors from outside the state for an interaction on August 23.
Prof A M Shah, Mustafa Shah, interim VC, Prof Mustafa Shah Dean college development, Prof Javaid Sheikh, Prof Khurshid Andrabi and Prof Neelofar Khan (DSW) home sciences are the five aspirants who have been called for an interaction by the expert committee constituted by the Governor.
The search committee will propose a shortlist of three aspirants that will be forwarded to the Governor who is also the chancellor of the Kashmir University for select one out of the three shortlisted candidates, sources added.
Sources informed that some 42 academicians from various streams had submitted their CVs before the search committee set up for the purpose. I had applied for VCs post in 2011 but later when in confirmed the same was not sent to expert committee. There was a deliberate sabotage that time. But this time, my CV has reached the search committee but I dont know what criteria has been adopted by the committee, Prof Sofi asked.
