SRINAGAR: A team of Legal Metrology Department (LMD) conducted surprise e inspection of Petrol Pumps of Budgam, Bandipora and Baramulla districts to ascertain the delivery and during the checking four petrol pumps were penalized for short delivery.
About two dozen petrol pump stations were inspected in these districts. A penal sum of Rs. 12000 was slapped on the erring petrol pumps by Joint Controller, LMD.
Under Oil Marketing guidelines and Legal Metrology laws, every petrol pump must carry a five litre can (5 litre conical measure) with which a consumer can himself check the delivery of the petrol pump if he has the doubt of the delivery of the pump.
The Petrol Pump owners have to ensure the correct delivery of the dispensing units by checking the delivery every day before putting the pump to the use. In case there is some problem, the mechanic of the company may be informed to rectify the error in presence of local Inspector of Legal Metrology.
