Srinagar: Hundreds of youth on Friday afternoon held protests and clashed with forces in various parts of Kashmir resulting in injuries to 8 policemen, witnesses and reports said.
They said that soon after Friday prayers, dozens of youth assembled near the gate of Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta area of Old City and raised anti-Israel slogans. Protester also torched the flag of ruling National Conference amid pro-freedom slogans, witnesses added.
Soon after the protest, youths clashed with police and paramilitary CRPF men who were deployed in strength in the area.
Meanwhile, the shutdown against youths death in Palhallan village of north Kashmirs Baramulla district continued for third running day with youth clashing with police and paramilitary forces after Friday prayers.
In Baramulla town, at least seven policemen were injured when violent clashes between youth and government forces rocked the town after anti-Israel protests on this afternoon.
Eyewitnesses said that soon after Friday prayers, dozens of youth took to streets and held anti-Israel and pro-Palestine protests. The protesters torched flags of Israel and denounced Zionist aggression.
After protests, youth appeared on Khanpora Bridge and hurled stones on government forces. Protesters resorted to intense stone-pelting on policemen. Police responded by lobbing tear smoke shells triggering clashes that continued till late evening, witnesses said.
A police official said that seven policemen sustained injuries during massive stone-pelting. However, police exercised maximum restraint, he said.
In Kreeri, where the Palhallan youth was found dead in a residential house, clashes between protesters and forces left a policeman injured.
Sources said that violent clashes rocked the area after which extra-contingent of forces were deployed in the area.
In Sopore town, youth attacked the bunker of paramilitary CRPF at SBI building and hurled stones on it ensuing clashes. The youth, however, dispersed later.
