SRINAGAR: The 3-day International workshop on autism in child and adolescents psychiatry was organized by the department of Psychiatry, Government Medical College, Srinagar, in collaboration with Royal College of Psychiatry London with support from WHO.
The workshop was inaugurated by Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Mohammad Shafi Rather, who was also Chief Guest on the occasion.
This was followed by scientific sessions aimed at assessment and management of children with neural and other adolescent problems.
Speaking on the occasion, Rather said that Government is committed to provide all sorts of assistance and facilities for the development and betterment of children with autism. It is therefore, necessary that we have to create awareness through various sources among the people as there are many myths and misconception related to autism in our society.
Rather also stressed on the need of providing vocational training and education to students having autism so that they would become engrossed in their various creative work.
In the inaugural session various delegates and faculty members spoke about various development disorders and their early identifications, treatment and management of specific behaviour.
Earlier, various delegates and faculty members were also facilitated with mementos for their contribution.
Principal GMC, Dr. Rafiq Ahmed Pampori, Executive Director State rehabilitation Centre, G. R. Mir, Deputy Director Social welfare, Wasim Raja, Prof of Royal College of Psychiatry London, Dr. Henrikje Klaran, HoD Psychiatry Department, Dr. Arshad Hussain, Secretary Social Welfare Board, Aamir Ali and other faculty members of medical college present on the occasion.
