Srinagar recorded maximum temperature of 32.0 degree Celsius on Sunday while the night temperature went up 4 degrees above the normal.
Director Metrology Department Sonam Lotus told CNS that intense heat wave in Valley is being witnessed on account of low monsoon currents in northern India besides low moisture in atmosphere. The minimum monsoon activities, absence of moisture in atmosphere and low pressure system are the main reasons for the ongoing heat wave in Kashmir Valley, Lotus said adding that there will be no abrupt decrease in heat wave.
He said that from the second week of August this month, the temperature would start decreasing gradually as a result people would get respite.
The maximum temperature on Sunday recorded an increase of 2.6 degree Celsius over yesterday temperature while the minimum temperature, which was 19.0 degree Celsius also increased two degree Celsius in 24 hours.
Roadside vendors selling sugarcane juice, ice candies and lemon water witnessed had brisk business and rush due to the prevailing heat wave. There are reports that most of government and private educational institutions lack cooling system facilities as a result students faces great inconvenience on Monday.
Students Faint In Schools
With the state authorities announcing the re-opening of the schools on Monday despite the scorching heat conditions, the temperatures gave tough time to the school going kids with the reports about children fainting in various areas of the summer capital.
As schools reopened on Monday after a 15-day summer break across Kashmir several students fainted due to the heat wave prevailing in the valley.
Parents across have slammed the authorities over undermining the prevailing heat conditions stating that the step taken by the school education department vindicates the little care being shown by the helmsmen about the little kids.
This is outrageous that the situation has turned this much turbulent and the authorities didnt pay any heed to end the crisis. Ether the government should have the proper arrangement in the schools and if they dont have the same, the health of kids must be taken into consideration before making any announcement public, said Mohammad Shafi Lone.
The decisions the state authorities take are anarchic in nature. They dont see the conditions on ground. They sit in the air conditioned offices and take decision of opening of the schools, caring little what it means to remain in the intense heat conditions, said Mukhtar Ahmad, whose kid studies in 1st standard at a private institution.
However, the state authorities when contacted maintained that the syllabus of the kids is yet incomplete and if the vacations continue it would have direct affect upon the academic session.
But parents contested the claim of school education department, stating that the health of their children is most important. They cannot take our children for a ride. They have to take appropriate step, parents said.
