SRINAGAR: Locals from Tarzoo, a village in Sopore, Monday alleged that Army had been imposing night curfew in the area due to which people faced lot of hardships and the farmers were unable to visit their orchards and paddy fields. The town administration, however, has advised people to dissuade their kin from resorting to stone throwing, “Which forces army to restrict public movement”.
A delegation from Tarzoo area said that they are suffering immensely due to the high handedness of Army personnel from 52 RR. A few days back the Army used public address system directing people not to venture out from their houses from 8 in the evening till 4 in the morning, one of the members of the delegation said adding that they are feeling scared and unsafe.
SP Sopore Abdul Qayoom said that people should bring the matter into the notice of police and civil administration while SDM Sopore Khurshid Ahmed told a local newsgathering agency here that youth should refrain from stone-pelting as such incidents force Army to take such steps.
Sarpanch Tarzoo, Fayaz Ahmed however said that Army have restricted the night movement of the people because groups of youth every evening attack army vehicles with stones. Army directed youth not to assemble on roads in groups during evening hours and for this purpose they used public address system, he said adding that some unknown youth frequently pelt stones on Army vehicles in the area and as a precautionary measure army has restricted the movement of the people on roads. An Army official said that he would look into the matter.
