BADERWAH: A student was killed and 23 others were wounded in a clash between two groups inside a Masjid in Jammus Doda district, officials said on Saturday.
They said, Sharafat Ali, a student of MA, died and 23 others were wounded last night after a clash erupted between members of two groups of the same community, armed with rods and sticks, over management of the Masjid and a madrassa in Sartangal belt here.
Three critically injured persons were moved to SK Institute of Medical Sciences Soura, while two others were rushed to GMC hospital Jammu.
Sharfat Alis brother Rahat Ali and his uncle Farooq Ahmed are among the critical patients, officials added.
As the word about the incident spread in the area Police and Army personnel rushed to the spot, following which the situation was brought under control, reports said, adding the Masjid has been closed in view of the incident.
The situation has been brought under control. Police force is deployed in the area. They are investigating the case, District Development Commissioner, Doda Sham Vinod Meena told a wire agency.
He said that some people have also been rounded up for questioning in this regard.
