SRINAGAR: Police Friday arrested a youth for allegedly raping a girl in North Kashmirs Pattan town while the hunt has been launched to nab the other accused who reportedly helped the main accused to kidnap the girl.
A CNS, quoting Police sources, said that after public outcry police Friday arrested Showkat Reshi son of Akbar Reshi resident of Nilla Palapora Pattan who with the help of his friend Bilal Reshi allegedly raped a girl of the same locality in an orchard.
Police sources added that a girl was coaxed into a nearby orchard where Showkat Reshi allegedly raped her. The girl after narrating the incident to her family, approached police station Pattan along with her father where police registered a formal FIR vide number 180/2014 under section 376,509,109 of RPC.
Police sources said that medical report confirmed the rape and acting upon the report, police arrested the accused while another accused Bilal Reshi is still at large. Locals have demanded stringent punishment for the accused.
Meanwhile the alleged police inaction against a person, accused of forcing his wife to commit suicide, prompted protestors to block Srinagar-Leh highway near Preng Kangan in Central Kashmirs Ganderbal district on Friday. The protestors were demanding immediate arrest of a person who according to them forced his wife to commit suicide.
Rukhsana Banoo wife of Parvez Ahmed Tak resident of Baramdara Chattargul Kangan was found dead past week at home. The reports suggested she had consumed some poisonous substance . The relatives of the deceased while holding the husband of Rukhsana responsible for her death alleged that he used to frequently harass and beat his wife. The relative had registered a case against Parvez Tak in police station Kangan.
Eyewitnesses said that scores of people soon after Friday prayers blocked Srinagar-Leh highway and disrupted the traffic for hours causing great convenience to the commuters.
The protestors alleged that police have shown no interest in getting the accused arrest. It was only after the police officials informed the protestors that accused is already in the lock up, protestors dispersed peacefully.
SDPO Kangan, Zulifqar Shaheen said that police has already the accused and a case vide FIR number 65/2014 under section 309 of RPC has been registered against him. Without knowing the reality, relatives staged protest as a result people faced lot of inconvenience, he said.
