Srinagar: The army Friday claimed that at least two more militants have been killed Friday morning in a prolonged encounter at Keran sector of north Kashmirs Kupwara district, taking the death toll of militants to four. Two militants, an army spokesman said, were killed last evening after the militant group tried to ex-filtrate to the Pakistan Administered Kashmir side was intercepted at the Sondi Gali near Line of Control.
Official sources said that the joint team of armys 15 RR and 7 Gadhwal today morning launched massive searches to track down the militants who were part of the group.
As the joint team of forces intensified the searches in the whole forest area, the remaining militants tried to break the cordon, however, they were engaged by the forces resulting in a fierce gunfight, sources said.
They said that during the gunfight two militants have been killed and the search operation in the area is still going on.
During the searches army recovered all the four militant bodies, sources said.
A senior army official confirmed to that 4 militants have been killed in an encounter near LoC in Keran sector.
The official said that large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from the encounter site which include AK 47 (08), AK 47 (16), GPS (03), Campas (03), Baincular (01), Quilt (Rajai) (05), Matric Sheet (04), Map sheet (04-E 38 to 92 & N 42 to 92) and some Pak made eatable items.
Meanwhile, armys 16 Grenadier launched a massive search operation at Kachhama forest area in Chokibal sector of Kupwara district following the suspicious movement of 2-3 militants.
A Border Security Force officer was killed in Jammu district Friday when his service rifle went off accidentally and injuring another trooper, police said.
A police official said that BSF Inspector Saitram and Constable Ramji Thakur got injured when the officers pistol went off accidentally inside the camp of 94 bn headquarter in RS Pura.
Both the injured were shifted to hospital where the Inspector succumbed to injuries.
