Srinagar: More than 2000 quintals of rice meant for public distribution has mysteriously disappeared from a granary in Chadoora area of central Kashmirs Budgam district, a newsgathering agency GNS reported Thusrdayhas learnt.
Quoting sources the agency claimed that the Nagam Granary at Chadoora received 11,030 quintals of rice from CAPDs central godown in Srinagar which was to be dispatched to 5 circles of Budgam district: Charisharif A, charisharif B, Chadoora A, Chadoora B and B.K Pora. However, only 9000 quintals of rice have been dispatched to these centers and the remaining rice is missing, sources said.
The Assistant Director CAPD, according to the agency report, is under cloud for appointing a tainted person as storekeeper for the Sheikhpora granary. The storekeeper was attached with Central Office over embezzlement charges and is yet to receive clearance from the Vigilance and Crime Branch, the report quotes the sources as said.
When contacted Director CAPD, Bilal Ahmad Bhat said he would look into the matter. It has been only 48 hours since I assumed charge. It is a serious matter and I will definitely look into it, he said. DC Budgam Manzoor Ahmad Lone has also promised action into the matter.
