SRINAGAR: As the Congress high command decided to fight alone the upcoming polls in Jammu and Kashmir, the partys State cadre has unanimously decided to accomplish the unfulfilled promises made with the people in remaining months of the government.
Sources have said that the party has told its ministers to utilize the remaining months to the maximum and the promises the party had made with the people be given the top priority. It has also been directed to the party cadres that parting ways at present would prove costlier to the Congress as there are several issues that are yet to be resolved while being in the government.
A senior Congress leader while pleading for anonymity stated that the party has decided to prioritize its efforts in the coming days with the fulfillment of the promises the party made to its voters in 2008 be given rapt keening attention.
He stated further that overall the congress leadership is of the opinion that the party must get maximum benefit out of the days it is with the coalition and that there must be no compromise over the partys agenda. What benefit the party would get if it breaks the coalition. We have the issues that need to be resolved and the promises that are yet to be fulfilled. The party has decided to work with utmost dedication so that it could approach masses of the state with the positive report card during the coming assembly elections.
We have the manifesto that we released ahead of the 2008 elections in the state; there are plethora of the issues that must be resolved before the siren of the coming elections is blown in Jammu and Kashmir.
Party sources also confirmed that the resettlement of the refugees is being given the maximum attention and that issues must be resolved on humanitarian grounds. Party spokesman Ravinder Sharma said that there is a misconception about the Congress demand vis-à-vis the settlement of the PAK refugees. There is the issue of financial assistance to the refugees who are living in really perturbed conditions. We will continue to pursue this agenda, Sharma stated. Senior Congress leader
Ghulam Nabi Azad on June 20 announced the end of years of alliance with National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls in the state. Azad said that the party wanted to emerge as the single largest party in the state and complete pending projects.
AICC general secretary Ambika Soni also confirmed the decision and said that Congress will contest on the 87 state Assembly seats alone.
President of National Conference, Omar Abdullah, took to Twitter and said that the decision to not have any pre-poll alliance was conveyed to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi around 10 days back.
He further said at that time that it would be incorrect to say that the decision related to the upcoming Assembly polls was taken by Congress. Congress had held a meeting last month to deliberate on the strategy for the upcoming polls and to decide whether party will contest Assembly polls alone last month. Senior party leaders including Azad and JKPCC president Saifuddin Soz were present among others.
Pertinently, the state Congress chief Saif-ud-Soz said on June 20 that Congress is going to contest on all the 87 assembly segments of the state and efforts have been kick started for the same. However, Soz remarked that the party is not going to field its candidates CPI-M leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, DPN chief Ghulam Hassan Mir and PDF chairman Hakeem Mohammad Yasin. These three leaders will be included in the list of 87 seats and we will not fight against them.
