CAIRO: US Secretary of State John Kerry says Israels deadly offensive on the besieged Gaza Strip, that has killed over 600 Palestinians, is appropriate and legitimate.
Kerry made the remarks after he arrived in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, to hold crisis talks on Israels offensive on Gaza. The Tel Aviv regimes onslaught is in its fifteenth day and has killed at least 604 Palestinians and injured over 3,600 others so far. The number of Palestinian casualties, who are mostly civilians, continues to rise.
We are deeply concerned about the consequences of Israel’s appropriate and legitimate effort to defend itself, Kerry said Monday during a meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in Cairo.
Meanwhile, Kerry pledged $47 million in humanitarian aid for besieged Palestinians in Gaza who are under Israels aerial and ground attacks. That sum includes $15 million for the UN’s Palestinian refugee agency and $32 million from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to meet the emergency needs of Gazans.
