SRINAGAR: Debunking the Police claim that an active Hizbul Mujahideen militant had killed a young man and his doctor cousin, the family of the deceased Monday ruled out the militant’s involvement and accused Police of shielding the real culprit. The Naikoo family of North Kashmirs Sopore town who lost two family members including a doctor in a planned attack on June 20 last month Monday accused police of letting the murderer free without facing trial.
Scores of protestors from Seelu Sopore staged a protest in Press Enclave Srinagar alleging that police freed the main culprit against whom it had disclosed that it was he who killed the two Naikoo family members.
One of the protestor Fayaz Ahmed Naikoo told reporters here that unidentified gunmen on June 20 barged into the house of Congress Block president Khazar Naikoo and killed his son Nazir Naikoo. He said that in the attack, the cousin of deceased Shabir Maqbool Naikoo, a dentist by profession was also injured who later on succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
District police authorities after few days of the incident registered a case vide FIR number 95/2014 U/S 302, 307 RPC and 7/27 Arms Act and had apprehended Mehraj-u-din Khan alias Raja Khan son of Sardar Khan resident of Khan Mohalla, Mundji, Zangire Sopore from his house as he was identified by Khazir Naikoo (my father) while fleeing from the spot after the attack, Fayaz Ahmed said adding they were shocked to see the accused roaming free in the town and the case has been withdrawn against him, Fayaz said.
The male and female protestors said that police authorities during a press briefing had said that in the process of investigation it surfaced that the accused Mehrajudin used the services of local HM militant Javaid Ahmad Matoo of Sopore town.
The protestors said that there was no role of local militant in the attack. In an attempt to save the main accused Mehrajudin police blamed the local militant. My father himself saw and identified the accused and yet he was freed and no case was registered against him. When we contacted Investigating Officer of the case, he failed to justify the release of the main accused and even said that, your protests cant move the pillars of the system, the brother of the deceased said.
