SRINAGAR: The slain rape victim Tabinda Gani who was brutally raped and murdered at Langate Handwara on July 20, 2007 was remembered on her 8th death anniversary. Hundreds of people from Langate and adjoining areas while paying rich tributes to teenage girl Tabinda Gani demanded punishment for guilty without further delay.
Eyewitnesses said that residents of Handwara, Langate and other adjoining areas visited Batpora and offered Fateh-a-Khawani at ancestral graveyard of then14-year old Tabinda. A congregational prayer was also offered in local Masjid to pay homage to Tabinda, who was raped and murdered by 4 persons, including two non locals, on this day eight years ago.
We are proud of Tabinda. She resisted the rape and fought with the culprits at the eleventh hour of her life and even bruised them with her nails which later helped in identification of the accused, uncle of Tabinda said adding that they are expecting the judgment of the case anytime now.
The shocking incident had triggered spontaneous protests all across Kashmir and it was only after the wide spread protests that police swung into action and arrested four accused Azhar Mir son of Gul Mir of Langate, Sadiq Mir, Suresh Mochi of Rajasthan and Jahangir Bihari of West Bengal under sections 363/369/302/376-B who are still languishing in jail.
The locals demand death penalty for the accused and are sure that court will award the same to those beasts who put an innocent girl to death.
